Cottage Interior

This piece was the first interior I made in 3D, and the largest project I’d made at that point. In was also a huge step forward in determining what kind of personal style I wanted to use in 3D.

My goal in this project was to try and emulate the look and feel of classic 3D games, but without the dirt and crunch the old limitations forced upon it. Sort of a “how you remember it looking” vs “how it really looks” type of situation. I can’t say it looks like any kind of classic game at all, but I still like how it turned out. All of the furniture is reasonably low-poly and the textures are lovingly painted by hand.

Looking back on this retrospectively, and after having made other furniture assets since, I can say that I could have made the models much simpler. For a lot of pieces in this, I insisted on making all of the geometry connected, which led to a lot of extra polygons that aren’t doing anything for the models. The way in which I unwrapped the UVs could also use a lot of work. I do really love the way I chose to paint everything though, even if the method was pretty tedious. My favorite part is the bedroom.
