Farmer

There have been many days where I’ve woken up and wondered if this would be the day I remade this character for the fourth time. This character has been a work-in-progress since I started using Blender, and while this version is the one I’m the most satisfied with at time of writing, I often run into problems and have to edit the model or rig in sometimes drastic ways to make it serve its purpose well. I suppose that’s just what happens when you’re learning new things all the time.

I’ve taken the liberty here to share not only where this character is at now, but also where they started because…. well, I think it’s very funny.

Version 1

I never got to rigging or animation with this one because I realized as I was texturing it that something was going horribly wrong. I thought it was because I did a bad job on the geometry then, but now I’d say it’s that I did a bad job on absolutely everything. This was the first thing I made in Blender.

Version 2

My second attempt saw a fair deal of use! I was very happy with it for what it was meant to be, and still don’t have too many problems with the look. I left this one behind because I made it so low-poly that it was well near impossible to do anything with. Every animation felt like it was shattering to pieces, the texture was poorly unwrapped and warped in odd ways, and the topology wasn’t easy to modify because there was such little wiggle room. I eventually reached a point where I felt confident enough in my skills that I thought I’d be able to do it better in every way.
