Northwest Beach

Inspired by a place I walk by sometimes in Seattle, this was an attempt at making a simple environment with reuseable assets, and even more importantly: an attempt at making trees I actually like. They were an absolute trial as you’ll see below, but the final result has brought me some amount of peace and has assured me that it is actually possible to make some trees that I like.

This was also my first venture into shaders which I used for the wave effect! It’s not ideal, but it functions and that’s what matters.

I plan to reuse these assets for a different simple environment, which will be linked here whenever it’s finished.

The trees were a lot of trial and error. In each image, the later iterations are on the left, and earlier on the right. The process involved a lot of decimate modifiers and post-correction.

In the image to the left, I actually took screenshots of the models and painted over them in a 2D program to try and determine patterns I could attempt to recreate in 3D. Above is the final result.
