On a lovely November first, I prepared myself to sit down and recollect all that I’d accomplished in the past October. But when I went to make a new blog post, my eyes drifted down and I saw the dreaded word “(draft)” and was filled with the greatest post-Halloween horror of all. I forgot to finish last months post and it never went up! So this one’s a double update, enjoy!

After months of trying to convince myself to do it, but I finally sat down and fixed the format on my 3D projects page! If I had done things differently in the first place, it probably would have never been an issue, but sometimes you think of something that seems like it’ll look sooooo cute, but then you see it in practice and realize, oh, this makes the page load poorly and oops! it doesn’t scale even a little bit when you’ve got more than three projects on the page. The new format is similar to your typical ArtStation or DeviantArt format where the main page has preview images linked to actual pages for each project. I worked hard to make sure each thing had a nice description written next to it too! The next thing I should do is probably put each of these projects on ArtStation proper, because allegedly that’s good for visibility, and then I need to give the same treatment to my “Projects” page, though this year’s lapse in commissions has made that a lower priority.

Other than that, I spent September and October working on a couple 3D projects! One is a saloon that will be discussed shortly, and the other is the winner of my project poll on Patreon: a pumpkin plant!

I tried to stream both projects extensively on Twitch, both because I wanted to see if people would like that and because I wanted to see if it was even something I was capable of. At first, it was pretty exhausting and nerve-wracking trying to keep focused on something for hours at a time while being worried about being entertaining, but I’ve started to relax about it a bit more. I might try to make it a thing that I stream work on Tuesdays, but currently I just stream whenever I sit down at the computer and have something I know I can go forward with and won’t need to stop for research or reference.

Streaming, as well as work in general fell to the wayside in October due to visits from family and friends with whom I ended up hiking all over the state of Washington. It was a very inspiring time that left me feeling very refreshed and excited to get back to business, which is exactly the energy I needed to finish my saloon.

It’s the second interior I’ve made now, intended to be an old western saloon that’s still in use in the 90’s. The 90’s aspect definitely doesn’t come across very strongly, but this piece has cemented in me that I am not at all a detail-oriented kind of person, and I’m going to keep at projects like this to work on it! A nice thing about this piece is that it’s very easy to add new details onto if I should ever want to do that. For now though, I’ve definitely spent all the energy I have on it. It’s time to move on to new things!

Namely, November’s project is to learn the control rig in Unreal Engine so I can make character animations in that rather than deal with the fickle ordeal of importing things over and over from Blender. I’m very excited!
